So, I really wanted to try out this crossplay thing in MLB The Show 23. I mean, playing with friends on different consoles? Sounds awesome, right?
First, I booted up my PS5 and launched the game. Then, I remembered I needed to actually enable crossplay. In the game menu, I went to my profile settings. It was pretty easy to find, there was a big, clear option that said “Cross Play” and I just turned it on. Done!

Now, I wanted to add my buddy who plays on Xbox. In the game, I went to “My Profile” and found the “Friends” tab. It took me a minute to figure it out, but there’s a button to send a friend request. I typed in his username and sent the request over. You have to use the in-game system to add friends across platforms. It doesn’t work through PSN or Xbox Live directly.
Once he accepted my friend request, it was time to play! We created a custom game and invited each other. It worked like a charm! We were playing a game, me on my PS5 and him on his Xbox, no problem.
The game also has this thing called cross-save. I haven’t used it much yet, but basically, you can continue your progress on different consoles. It looks like you just need to link your MLB The Show account to your console accounts. I’ll have to try that out sometime, but for now, I’m just happy playing with friends no matter what console they have.
- Turned on crossplay in my profile settings.
- Sent a friend request to my Xbox friend using his username within the game.
- Created a custom game and invited him.
- Played the game together across platforms.
Here’s a quick rundown of what I did:
It was way easier than I thought it would be. If you’re thinking about playing MLB The Show 23 with friends on different consoles, go for it! It’s a blast.
