Well, let me tell ya, them NBA ratings, they ain’t lookin’ so good this year. Folks been sayin’ they’re down, way down. NBA ratings down, that’s what they’re hollerin’ on the TV. Don’t rightly know why, but somethin’ ain’t clickin’ with the folks watchin’ at home no more.
Heard tell they signed some big ol’ deal, biggest ever they say, for seventy-six billion dollars. That’s a lot of money, more’n I ever seen in my whole life. But even with all that cash, folks ain’t watchin’ like they used to. They say the NBA ratings are down by nineteen percent. Nineteen! That’s a whole lotta folks turnin’ off their TVs.

Now, I ain’t no expert, but I watch a game or two. Used to be, you knew who the good players were. Now, they got all these fellas, hyped up and makin’ big bucks, but they ain’t always worth a darn. They call it “overrated,” I reckon. Too much fuss over players who ain’t all that great. Maybe that’s why folks are losin’ interest.
- Too many games, maybe?
- Players ain’t as good as they used to be?
- Too much money, not enough heart?
And these games, they’re hard to figure out. One night, a team’s winnin’ by a mile, the next night they gettin’ their butts kicked. They say some smarty-pants machines can guess who’s gonna win, but even them ain’t always right. Scores all over the place, sometimes a hundred points, sometimes more. Just a whole lotta back and forth, makes a person dizzy.
Heard tell it’s costin’ them TV fellas more money to get folks to watch. That ain’t good, no sirree. They spent all that money on the rights to show the games, and now folks ain’t watchin’. Gotta be a headache for them, I tell ya. They call it “cost to acquire a viewer is rising”, sounds fancy, but it just means they gotta spend more to get you and me to watch. And if the ratings keep goin’ down, they ain’t gonna be happy.
They even talkin’ ’bout movin’ them big games from Las Vegas. That’s where they had them cup games, but now they sayin’ maybe they’ll go somewhere else. Seems like they tryin’ everything to get folks interested again. NBA ratings struggle, that’s what it is. They struggling to keep up with how things used to be, even though they got all that money.
So, what’s the deal? Why are folks turnin’ off the TV? Like I said, I ain’t no expert, but maybe it’s just too much. Too much hype, too much money, too many games. Maybe folks are just tired of it all. Or maybe they just ain’t playin’ the kind of basketball folks wanna see no more. Remember the old days? Them fellas played hard, every night. Now, it’s all about showboatin’ and fancy moves. Maybe that’s it. Maybe folks just want good, honest basketball.
One month into the season, and the big bosses are already scratchin’ their heads. They were probably hopin’ for a big boost after signin’ that huge TV deal, but it ain’t happenin’. They talkin’ about “media rights” and all that, but down here on the ground, all we see is empty seats and low viewership numbers. And that ain’t good for nobody.
Anyways, that’s just my two cents. I’m just an old woman, what do I know? But I know what I like, and I know what I see. And right now, I see a whole lotta folks losin’ interest in the NBA. And if they don’t figure somethin’ out, them ratings gonna keep on droppin’, and all that money ain’t gonna mean a thing.
