Alright, let’s talk about this shamble format golf thing. I ain’t no fancy golfer, you know, but I’ve seen folks play it, and it seems kinda fun. It ain’t rocket science, that’s for sure.
So, from what I gather, this shamble thing is like a mix-up of other golf games. You know, like when you mix potatoes and beans in the same pot? It’s somethin’ like that.
- First off, everybody hits their ball off the tee, just like normal.
- Then, you pick the best ball outta the bunch. You know, the one that went the farthest or landed in the best spot.
- Now, here’s the kicker, everybody plays their own ball from that good spot. Ain’t no cheatin’ and usin’ the same ball like in that scramble game.
It’s kinda like best ball, but you don’t get to pick the best ball after every shot, just the first one. After that, you’re on your own, so you better hit it straight, or you’ll be in the weeds, I tell ya!
Now, some folks get all fancy with their rules and handicaps and whatnot. They talk about usin’ some percentage of your handicap, like 55% or 80%. I don’t know nothin’ about that. All I know is, you hit the ball, you find the best one, and then you hit it again till it goes in the hole. Simple as that.
And they talk about having to use a certain number of drives from each person. Like, you can’t just let ol’ John hit all the good tee shots. Everybody gotta pitch in and do their part. That sounds fair to me. Keeps things from gettin’ too lopsided.
I heard some folks say you gotta play the second shot within a club length of that good tee shot. That makes sense, I guess. You don’t wanna be movin’ the ball all over the place. Just a little scoot closer to the hole, if you need it.
This shamble golf, it seems like a good way to play with your buddies, even if some of them ain’t so good at hittin’ the ball. You get to help each other out a little bit, but you still gotta play your own game. It ain’t like that scramble where one good player can carry the whole team.
I reckon it’s a good way to make things a bit more fun, especially if you got a mix of good and not-so-good players. You know, like when you got some young’uns and some old-timers playin’ together. The young’uns can hit it far, and the old-timers can keep it straight, maybe. That way, everybody feels like they’re part of the team.
And that’s pretty much all I know about this shamble golf format. It ain’t complicated. You hit, you pick, you hit again, and you count up the score at the end. Just like any other golf game, I reckon, only with a little twist to it. Keeps things interestin’, you know?
