Well, let me tell ya, this Vanderbilt football team, they got this thing called a “depth chart.” Now, don’t ask me what that fancy name means, but it’s like a list, see? A list of all them boys who play the football. They got ’em all lined up, who’s gonna start, who’s gonna come in if the first fella gets tired or hurt.

Offense, Defense, all that jazz. You got yer quarterbacks, the fellas who throw the ball. And then ya got the runners, the ones who carry the ball. Gotta have big fellas up front too, to block. Big fellas, strong as oxen, protectin’ the quarterback, makin’ holes for the runners.
- Quarterback – He’s the one tossin’ the pigskin, ya know?
- Runnin’ backs – Them fellas, they gotta be quick, gotta be strong.
- Wide receivers – Catch the ball, run fast, that’s their job.
- Linemen – Big fellas, pushin’ and shovin’. Gotta be strong, like I said.
Then there’s the defense. They gotta stop the other team from scorin’. Gotta tackle them fellas, take the ball away. Lots of different positions on defense too. Linebackers, safeties, cornerbacks… sounds like a bunch of stuff you’d find in a tool shed, don’t it? But these fellas, they’re important. They gotta be tough, gotta be smart.
Now, this depth chart, it changes. See, sometimes a boy gets hurt, or maybe he ain’t playin’ so good. Then they gotta put someone else in. It’s like musical chairs, only with football players. One fella comes out, another one goes in. Gotta have enough fellas, you know? Can’t just have one fella at each spot. What if he gets hurt? Then who ya gonna put in? Gotta have a backup plan, like when you put extra flour in the pantry, just in case.
They got these fellas called coaches, too. Smart fellas, I reckon. They decide who plays where, who gets to start, who gets to come in later. They watch these boys practice, watch ’em play. They know who’s good, who needs to work harder. It’s like tendin’ a garden, gotta know which plants need more water, which ones need more sun.
Now, I hear tell this Vanderbilt team, they ain’t always been the best. But they’re tryin’, you know? They’re workin’ hard, these boys. They practice, they lift weights, they watch films. They wanna win, just like anyone else. It ain’t easy, playin’ college football. Gotta be tough, gotta be dedicated. Gotta give it yer all, every time you step on that field.

And this depth chart, it helps ’em, I reckon. It tells ’em who’s where, who’s gonna play. It’s like a roadmap, showin’ ’em the way. Keeps things organized, keeps things movin’. Football’s a complicated game, ya know? Lots of rules, lots of plays. Gotta have a plan, gotta have a system. And this depth chart, it’s part of that system.
So there ya have it, the Vanderbilt football depth chart. It’s just a list of players, really. But it’s an important list. It tells ya who’s gonna be out there on the field, fightin’ for the team. And that’s what matters, ain’t it? Fightin’ for yer team, givin’ it yer all. That’s what football’s all about, far as I can tell.
