Well now, I gotta tell ya, there’s been a real sad thing happened over yonder in McAllen, Texas. A young boy, just 17 years old, a football player by the name of Adan De La Cruz, got hurt real bad. I reckon it happened at one of them house parties where folks get to drinkin’ and not thinkin’ too clearly. Now, you might wonder how somethin’ like that can happen, but it’s all a mess, and it’s all so tragic.
So here’s the story, as I understand it. Young Adan, he’s a student over at McAllen Rowe High, played football, real strong boy by all accounts. He was at this party with some friends, and I reckon there was a good bit of alcohol goin’ around, though nobody’s sayin’ too much about it. But what they are sayin’ is that Adan was up on a roof, and well, I suppose he lost his balance or somethin’ and fell right off. He fell head-first, and that’s when things got real bad for him.
The folks over at McAllen ISD, that’s the school district, they called it a “tragic accident,” and I suppose that’s one way to put it. But I’m tellin’ you, when you hear the details, it’s even more heartbreaking. The poor boy landed just wrong, and it caused serious injuries to his head. They rushed him to the hospital, and for a few days, folks were holdin’ on to hope, but in the end, the boy passed away from his injuries. I just can’t imagine what his family’s goin’ through right now, not in a million years.
Now, they say there’s been a lot of people arrested connected to what happened that night. It’s hard to make sense of all that, but I reckon when something like this happens, folks start pointin’ fingers. I’m sure the police are doin’ what they can to get to the bottom of it, but it don’t change the fact that a young life’s been lost, and a lot of folks are hurtin’ over it.
The thing about these parties, I don’t know if it’s the drinkin’ or just the way folks get reckless, but more and more, it seems like we hear about these kinds of things. It don’t matter if it’s in a big city or a little town, it’s the same old story. A kid goes out to have some fun, and before you know it, everything’s changed, and it’s too late to fix it. We gotta be careful with these things, ya know? Life’s short, and you never know when it could all come crashing down, just like it did for Adan.
I reckon Adan had a lot of folks who loved him. His coaches, his teammates, all the people he knew down there at McAllen Rowe. They’re all in shock over what happened, and they’re doin’ their best to honor him, but I tell ya, it ain’t easy. People have been payin’ their respects, and I’m sure that’s helped some, but the hole left by this loss—it’s big, and it ain’t gonna fill up quick.
It’s always such a hard thing when a young person dies. You think about all the things they mighta done, all the places they mighta gone, and it just seems unfair. I know there ain’t no way to fix it, but I hope folks learn from it, y’know? Maybe they’ll think twice before gettin’ reckless or puttin’ themselves in dangerous situations. Maybe they’ll be more careful, for their own sake and for the sake of their families.
So, in the end, I suppose we just gotta keep Adan’s family in our prayers, and his friends too. They’ve lost somethin’ that can’t be replaced, and that’s a hard thing to bear. If there’s any silver lining in all this, maybe it’s that we can all learn somethin’ from it, and try to keep ourselves and the ones we love a little safer out there in this world.
